TODAY'S MEETING OF THE PACIFIC SOUTHWEST REGION BOARD MAY WELL CAST FUTURE OF WHOLE ABC/USA

Today's meeting of the ABC of the Pacific Southwest Region Board could shape the future of the whole denomination. That's the consensus as the Board grapples with the implications of Dr. Roy Medley's assesment that the PSW cannot exit the Budget Covenant with exiting the ABC.

This follows on the heels of a disasterous forum for Dr. Medley yesterday, in which pastors and church leaders from across the PSW made it clear that the Valley Forge position on homosexuality is not shared in the PSW. (See previous posts).

Now the issue is the response of the PSW Board. "The meeting [with Dr. Medley] put steel in the spines of the Board," remarked one pastor yesterday. "It makes it clear where we are coming from."

If PSW makes clear steps to leave, the domino effect could be dramatic. ABC of the West, Northwest, West Virginia and Indiana/Kentucky are expected to follow suit in rapid order. Other regions said to be on the line are Maine, Ohio, and Michigan.
